Operating Principle and Core Benefits

The LYF stainless steel non-contact labyrinth seal protects high-speed shaft and bearing ends. Multi-stage axial and radial labyrinth passages redirect, throttle, return and expel external dust, chips, oil mist and coolant before they reach the bearing area. The inner and outer rings do not contact each other in normal operation. LYF is a non-pressure protective design; where continuous liquid level, pressure differential, gas tightness or liquid-leakage control is required, combine it with a contact seal such as a PTFE stainless steel oil seal.

01Non-contact OperationNo conventional contact-lip friction, frictional heat rise or frictional power loss, with no shaft wear grooves or wear-particle contamination risk.
02Multi-stage Labyrinth and Liquid ExpulsionAxial and radial tortuous passages work with rotational expulsion to block dust, chips, oil mist and liquid splash.
03Standard Models and Custom DesignsStandard shaft diameters are 10–100 mm with a standard width of 6 mm; custom designs are available for installation space, splash direction and shaft-end geometry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an LYF labyrinth seal fully replace an oil seal?

Not in every application. LYF provides low-friction protection against external contamination. Where pressure differential, gas tightness, continuous liquid level or liquid-leakage control is required, combine it with a contact seal such as a PTFE stainless steel oil seal.

Can it be used under continuous immersion?

LYF is suitable for intermittent splash and external-contaminant exclusion, but is not recommended as the sole seal for continuous immersion. Continuous liquid-level applications require evaluation of drainage direction and pressure differential together with a contact seal.

How is maximum speed determined?

Calculate surface speed from shaft diameter and rotational speed, then confirm inner-ring interference, axial retention, dynamic balance, shaft runout and temperature. Ceimin engineering review is recommended above 60 m/s.

Which dimensions must be controlled during installation?

Control shaft diameter, housing bore, interference fit, concentricity, shaft runout, radial clearance, axial location and available width. The labyrinth and drainage orientation must match the contamination source.

Can it achieve IP65 or IP67?

An IP rating is a complete-enclosure test result and cannot be claimed from one labyrinth seal alone. Confirm it through the installation design, running clearances, spray direction and complete-equipment testing.

How long does a non-contact labyrinth seal last?

The non-contact design has no continuous conventional lip wear, but service life still depends on corrosion, assembly error, vibration, contaminant buildup, temperature and rotor condition. Inspect it according to the equipment maintenance schedule.
